Wedding trends to watch in 2015

Wedding trends to watch in 2015

Top 5 wedding trends to keep in mind if you are planning a wedding in 2015

"The emphasis lies on ceremonies and receptions that reflect the individualism of a couple, their style, tastes and personal preferences"

There's a strong spirit of individualism in the air in 2015, with couples keen on infusing their ceremonies and receptions with their own personality. The emphasis lies on ceremonies and receptions that reflect the individualism of a couple, their style, tastes and personal preferences. “Couples want to communicate who they are”, writes Deborah Witt for Bridal Guide. “They, of course want their wedding to be elegant & magical and still very fun for their guests. But they also want all of the details to reflect who they are as a couple. The result is a wedding that feels very personal & unique”. She continues. But how does one bring all of this individuality together? In the details of course.

1.     British elegance.

This stylish design brings to mind afternoon tea and garden parties. For this look, dining al fresco is a popular choice. Tables are often uncovered or simply adorned with a vintage lace cloth. Lush garlands get turned into runners and loosely styled floral centerpieces hang from above.

2.     Flowers & greenery.

Brides & designers alike continue to use, English roses, peonies, hydrangeas, dahlias as their go-to favourites. Bridal Guide says this is because "They're dramatic, they're romantic and they're versatile, so they look perfect whether you're planning a traditional affair or something more relaxed.”
Greenery is also a big trend for 2015. Herbs like rosemary and mint, lemon leaf, magnolia leaf, ivy, smilax and maidenhair fern are being strung together and used in surprising ways — as table runners or chair swags, to frame cocktail menus, to redefine tent ceilings or to give chandeliers a soft edge.

3.     Photography

More and more couples take the time and money to get professional engagement  photo shoots done. In 2015 invitations and save-the-dates that feature photography is big news. Anything from formal portraits to action shots in quirky set-ups

Although photo booths continue as a big wedding trend in 2015 it gets an interesting, artistic twist with couples hiring an onsite silhouette artists. Guests can pose for a short sitting and leave with a very personal memento.

4.     Food & drinks

Tasting and drinking stations is the big food trend for 2015. This clever way of providing food and drink allows couples, yet again, to see their own personal tastes, in small manageable portions (and without breaking their budget).  From oyster shucking stations, mac 'n cheese bars to wine and craft beer samplings. The emphasis is on the couple and what they like.

Guest favours also continue to be food related.  Not just mini-jars of jam, but food kits — boxes stuffed with all the fixings for a yummy late-night snack or a morning-after brunch.

5.     The wedding cake

Tempting-to-touch texture, especially, ruffled and tulle looks will be very important for cakes in 2015. Lace patterns, pleats, and textured buttercream frosting also remain strong trends for brides going for a vintage or soft, romantic feel. For a modern wedding, the texture might be a three-dimensional lattice, herringbone or other geometric pattern. Another tactile approach is to have your designer roll out black fondant and hand-paint it to look like a chalkboard. Couples are choosing cake flavours that are rooted in their hometowns or family heritage, where they began dating or a favourite destination. Think Honey lavender, coconut, and zucchini lime or even, caramel apple cider.

Vintage Wedding Decor ideas for the 2014 Wedding season

The Tentworx team exhibits twice a year at The Wedding Expo held at the Coca Cola Dome in Johannesburg. At these expos we display some of the current trends in the wedding industry and predict a few new trend for future weddings. With a creative team of event managers, Tentworx strives to be innovative and unique with the design of every event.

The theme for the Tentwarx stand at the April 2014 show was "Outdoor Weddings". We created an outdoor feel with a picture of a forest printed on the back wall, tree branches in the roof and an overall wood finish.

The center pieces differed from each other to give a casual and informal feel to the stand. Outdoor wedding are mostly intimate and informal. We used white and peach roses, proteas and various white and green flowers to finish it off.

We used old vintage crates as a display area on the second wall and filled it with various center piece options as well as old books, tin vases and scrabble letters.

The table was displayed as an intimate bride and groom table. The cutlery used was vintage silverware and the glasses vintage cut-crystal. A light grey serviette was used with hessian and scrabble letters displaying "Bride" and "Groom". As a center piece we used white and peach roses, a protea as well as a dessert rose. We displayed the flowers in an old fashioned  console jar.

As additional décor items we made a direction stand as well as tree trunks with " I Love You" carved on it. A wine barrel was used as a cocktail table. The flooring was a dark brown dance floor which added to the wood finish.

The Tentworx team used wooden chandeliers with globes hanging at different heights which added to the sunrays in the printed forest picture.  The tree branched also gave the printed forest picture a 3D feel.

Township wedding set-up

When thinking of a Township one tends to only see the dirty streets and rundown environment. In Aterigeville, on the outskirts of Pretoria, this is surely not the case. The community respects the environment and the area is kept neat and tidy. The below pictures will show you how Tentworx can create a beautiful and stylish wedding anywhere in South Africa.

The early morning mist disappears on the horizon of Aterigeville as the African sun makes its appearance. The Tentworx team created this outdoor ceremony set-up at the Ga Mothakga recreational centre and Resort in Aterigevile. As the sun came out the team quickly added the finishing touches for this early morning wedding ceremony. The white wooden benches combines with the green grass surely made this ceremony unforgettable.

The wedding reception was held in one of 15m x 24m peg and pole marquees. The tent was decorated with full white draping, white linen and just a touch silver and turquoise.  The guests were seated around round tables on our white wooden folding chairs. The centre piece was minimalistic with white pebbles, Barberton daisies and floating candles.
